Pediatric Nursing Course

COURSE
DESCRIPTION
This seven-day curriculum is a basic pediatric course designed for nurses involved in the care of children and their families. The course is also appropriate for the seasoned Pediatric RN’s who wants to get refreshed. Each day will focus on a specific pediatric concept or body system, related medical diagnoses, and nursing care of the child in the acute care setting.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Day 1 - The Basics and Beyond
Assessment, Pharmacology, Laboratory values, Developmental approaches, and Child Abuse.
Day 2 - The Silent Epidemic
Injury/Trauma, Pediatric Anatomy, Family Crisis/Support, Mechanism of Injury, Safety Devices, CA. Laws, Community Involvement.
Day 3 – Wheezes and Sneezes
Respiratory Assessment, Asthma, Airway Conditions (upper & lower), Blood Gas Interpretation, Tracheostomy Care.
Day 4 – Matters of the Heart
Congenital Heart Defects, Ultrasound, Acquired Heart Disease, and Caring for Chronically Ill Children.
Day 5 – Ins and Outs
Nutrition, Renal Disease, GU surgery, GI Assessment and Common Medical Conditions, Common GI surgeries.
Day 6 – Altered States
Pain, Neurological Assessment, meningitis and Encephalitis.
Day 7 – Stone Soup
Diabetes management, Orthopedics, septic work-up & shock, Infection Control, Ingestions, Joy of Pediatric Nursing.

C.E. credits will not be issued unless you attend the entire day of the course. If you arrive 15 minutes late, you will not be eligible to receive CE credits.

Upon receipt of the registration form, a confirmation letter stating course date, time and location will be sent. If you do not receive confirmation in approximately 2 weeks, please contact our office immediately. Your confirmation letter will act as an acknowledgment of enrollment in the course. INFORMATION
Registration deadline is one week prior to course date, or when the class limit is reached. Registration is by mail only and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Hospital facilitators may fax registration materials.

C.E. INFORMATION
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, CEP #07960, for 7 contact hours per day.
REFUNDS
The registration fee will be refunded provided notice of cancellation is given in writing 14 days prior to course date. The registration fee will be refunded in full if, for any reason, the Continuing Education Consortium cancels the program.
