Advanced Hemodynamics

7:30 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This class will explore PA catheter tracings in more detail after first establishing a common knowledge base in troubleshooting and zeroing. We will examine tracings as related to clinical situations such as mitral valve changes and cardiac tamponade for example. This class will offer VO2, LV and RV stroke index formulas. This will be done primarily through a case study approach.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Describe the physiologic determinants of cardiac output, arterial pressure and oxygen delivery.
  • Determine accurate balance and zeroing of a PA catheter.
  • Recognize "a" and "v" waves on the pulmonary artery tracings.
  • Apply pulmonary artery measurements to clinical settings.
  • Discuss the accuracy of hemodynamic data in patients on the following modes of ventilation: SIMV, AC, PEEP, spontaneous.
  • Describe the hemodynamic effects of the following medications: amrionone, nitroglycerine, dopamine, dobutamine, capoten, norepinephrine, epinephrine, and neosynephrine.
  • Describe several troubleshooting methods for PA catheter tracings.

REFUNDS
The registration fee will be refunded provided notice of cancellation is given in writing 14 days prior to course date. The registration fee will be refunded in full if for any reason, the Continuing Education Consortium cancels the program.
